Tết Lì Xì Envelopes - Year of the Horse

$22.00

Celebrate Lunar New Year with a set of 5 lì xì (lucky money) envelopes featuring Year of the Horse wishes in Vietnamese and Year of the Horse original illustrations by Stacy Nguyen. Each of the 5 envelopes is distinct and can be placed side by side to create one larger image.

The Year of the Horse artwork is inspired by Vietnamese mother-of-pearl inlay lacquer wall paintings. When placed side by side, all five envelopes come together to form one single, cohesive scene, allowing the set to function both as a complete visual narrative and as individual illustrations on their own. The narrative features horses at various stages of movement, a landscape, the four sacred animals: the dragon, the phoenix, the tortoise, and the kỳ lân, and the symbolism of the crane and tortoise, a duo of legacy and longevity.

Each lì xì is fully reversible and designed in a no-glue format. One side features the illustrated artwork, while the reverse showcases a utilitarian “envelope-style” design that allows them to be sent through the post/mail.

Through the red envelope, one of the most widely recognized traditions associated with the Lunar New Year, Stacy Nguyen’s Vietnamese-centric designs give visibility to Vietnamese communities on a holiday that is often regarded as Chinese New Year. Stacy is a Vietnamese American illustrator, visual designer, and writer whose work explores the ways race, Vietnameseness, and gender intersect within the lens of popular culture.
