Aiya is a card game dedicated to, and meant to be played with, your Cantonese community. Whether friends or family, AiYa hopes to spark a judgement-free way to practice your Chinese together.
Each set contains 150 phrases with four levels of difficulty ranging from easy to advanced. The objective is to try to get people to guess the chosen phrase without using any of the attached “Aiya” phrases. Each set comes with jyut-pin as well as pin-yin if you want to play in Mandarin as well.
Born out of Abacus Row’s weekly after-hours Cantonese language gathering, this game is a love letter to the community in San Francisco’s Chinatown and all that makes it unique.
Based in San Francisco, Derrick Ho is an illustrator and designer with a love for the ocean, word games, and the Cantonese language. His work aims to spur whimsy with bold hand drawn lines and pops of color.
